Here fishy fishy

As of exactly 7 minutes ago, a fisheye, along with the trendy camcaddie have both been ordered. As for the lens, its coming from Hong Kong, so look for it to impact our videos in march... (kidding, hopefully).

In other news, our weekend plans seem to have taken shape. Down south to App for Fresh Fridays #2, then back up to Timberline for Rail Jam #1. Then probably chill saturday night with some friends and hit snowshoe on sunday for some easy ridin. But yeah, typical wintertime business. Challenging to find time to get footage imported and edits up, but fear not. Look for a little somethin within the next few days.

And the whale will look nearly double the size as in the pics below by tomorrow.

Peace and love.

So with the bitter cold temperatures sticking around, Ryan deciding to make some snow for the 540 Mtn. Lab. As a result, a baby whale was born and this whale grows as you read this. The whale was born in 30 hours of labor, or snowmaking time you may say.

And a Happy New Year

From our hearts to yours...

Southern Arts and Crafts: The Screen Print

So you wanna make your own screen print? I know a few years ago I wanted to make my own shirt company and I looked at screen printing machines on ebay for thousands of dollars. Oh how silly I was. Well, with a few steps you can make your own sketchy screen print. The only thing I bought was the paint and it was under $3. Most other materials can be found around your house or granny's house. This screen print isn't perfect, there are other and better ways to do this, but this is pretty much the cheapest way.

Materials:

Embroidery Hoop - one big enough to fit around your image and still have a bit of excess space
Panty Hose - for the screen, ask your mom for an old pair
Pen
An Image - print one out from the computer or something like that
Elmer's Glue
Acrylic Paint
A paint brush or some other object to spread paint... I used a small rectangle of cardboard.
Wax Paper
An Iron
A shirt or shirts or something to apply the print on

Process:

Cut the panty hose down the leg to make a rectangle, then stretch over the embroidery hoop and tighten the hoop as much as you can.

Place the screen print over the image and trace with a pen.

This looks purdy.

Next spread elmer's glue everywhere you don't want to show up. The more coats of glue you do, the better.

With the screen print done, now you can use it. Place cardboard inside of the shirt you are gonna print on, put the screen print on the shirt. Now squrt paint all over the screen print and spread it out with whatever you have. Move the excess paint to the side and lift the screen print. Either do more shirts now or go wash off the screen print with cold water. Let the shirts dry then put wax paper over and under the screen print, iron on low heat to set the paint. Done.

The finished sketchy screen print.

Hope this worked out for you, it is a fun process and an introduction to apperal art. After you use this screen print it may be necessary to apply more glue as it seems to wear off in places. Have fun, go shralp.

Southern Arts and Crafts: The Tie Dye

So ya wanna know how to Tie Dye? See all the people at the resorts with killer tie dye shirts that they probably bought for $20 somewhere? Well this will teach you how to make your own. Obviously there are a bunch of ways to do things, but this is how I do mine.

Materials:

-Dyes obviously... Got mine at walmart for less than $2 a color... Don't use Rit dye, its no good.
-Squirt Bottles... mine are from a previous tie dye kit... i have used plan ole drink bottles with a hole in the lid... just something to put the dye in and then out onto the fabric.

Rubber bands and whatever you wanna dye. Use some old dingy white shirts or just get some new white ones.

Process:

Rubber band up some shirts. Different ways will produce different designs. Here are a few designs.
The sunburst or bulls eye- Lay shirt flat, pick up from middle, rubber band however many times.
The swirl or spiral- Lay shirt flat, spin shirt from middle point, rubber band to make different sections.
Stripes- Lay shirt flat, roll either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, rubber band off some sections.

Next get the shirt wet before dying it, make sure to wring out all the water possible though.

Dye each section different colors, then when done with one shirt, wrap it in plastic wrap. Let shirts set for 6 or more hours, then undo all the rubber bands and wash them all together with little soap. Dry and they are done!

Ex. of Results.

A swirly and stripes.

A special design I did... Bulls eye and stripes... Seemed to have made a sort of face, or boobs where boobs would normally go in the shirt.

Hope you make some cool shirts and have fun... Try not to piss off mother and father or roommates with the mess you make. Each time you will get better and learn how to do new things and make shirts look better. Peace.
